About Assessments

To diagnose mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g., autism and ADHD), the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) is used. The DSM-5 outlines what pattern of symptoms to look for, but conditions can have overlapping features, and sometimes you may meet the symptom criteria for more than one diagnosis. A comprehensive assessment involves collecting information from multiple sources, including:

  • Your personal experience and what you report;
  • Background information - such as your childhood, life experiences, relationships, and family;
  • Information from people who know you well or observe you often (e.g., Parents, teachers, a close friend);
  • Records such as school reports, doctors letters, any previous assessments;
  • Valid and reliable psychometric measures such as questionnaires and structured interviews;
  • My observations of you and my formulation of what is occurring, which stems from evidence-based models, theories, and research.

I combine the above information with my knowledge of DSM-5 conditions, to formulate an understanding of why you are experiencing the symptoms you are, and put this into a written report.

If there is a diagnosis, an explanation on why this diagnosis was given is provided along with recommendations moving forward. There will be a feedback session with you so you have the opportunity to ask questions, and can ensure the interpretation is accurate. Never be afraid to ask for more information, or say if something doesn't sound right.

You may request an assessment privately or via a referral.

Autism assessmentS - 4-years to adulthood

Autism assessments are generally available for individuals aged 4-years and older via in-person or telehealth. If your child is younger than 4-years-old and you are seeking an autism assessment, you are still welcome to contact me using the form at the bottom of the page.

What to Expect

  • An initial 50-60 minute appointment to gather background information;
  • A 2-hour appointment to complete either the MIGDAS 2 or ADI-R;
  • Online questionnaires will be sent to you and one other person - often the SRS-2 and ABAS-3;
  • I may suggest a personality assessment for adults in some cases, or additional measures if ADHD is suspected;
  • A comprehensive 10+ page report will be provided;
  • A 50-minute feedback session to go through the report.
  • The report and diagnosis can be used to apply for NDIS, or provided to a school for support with an Individualised Learning Plan.

Cost

The total cost of an autism assessment is generally around $2595, not including the initial session. Because each individual is different, I will provide you with a quote and recommended assessments based on your needs.

ADHD Assessments - Children and adults

ADHD assessments can be provided in isolation, or alongside an autism assessment for individuals 6-years and older. They are also possible either in-person or via telehealth.

What to Expect

  • An initial 50-60 minute appointment to gather background information;
  • A 2-hour appointment to complete the DIVA - I may be able to incorporate this into our initial appointment to reduce the cost;
  • Conners-4 (for children) or CAARS (for adults) questionnaire sent to you and one other person;
  • In some cases a BRIEF-2 questionnaire for assessment of executive functioning in adults;
  • A comprehensive 5+ page report;
  • A 50-minute feedback session to go through the report.
  • The report and diagnosis can be used to apply for NDIS, or provided to a school for support with an Individualised Learning Plan.

Cost

The total cost for an ADHD assessment is generally $1750 (not including the initial session). However, after your initial session, I will provide a quote specific to you with suggestions.

Intellectual assessments - 6-years to 90-years

Intellectual assessments are available for individuals aged 6-years to 90-years of age.

At this stage, I only complete intellectual assessments in-person. If you require an assessment via telehealth, or for a child younger than 6-years using the WPPSI-IV, please contact me using the form at the bottom of the page. Doing so helps me better understand the needs of people in the community and adjust what I can provide going forward.

What to Expect

  • An initial 50-60 minute appointment (if you have a referral from NDIS or a school this may not be necessary);
  • A 2-hour appointment to administer the WISC-V or WAIS-IV;
  • A written report with brief background information, the results, and a diagnosis if necessary;
  • A 50-minute feedback appointment to go through the report.
  • The report and diagnosis can be used to apply for NDIS, or provided to a school for support with an Individualised Learning Plan.

Cost

The total cost for a WISC-V or WAIS-IV assessment is generally $1540.27 (not including the initial session). A discounted rate may be applied when using NDIS funding.

specific learning disorder assessments - 6-years to 50-years

Specific learning disorder assessments for individuals aged 6-years to 5o-years are available, and are generally used in conjunction with a WISC-V/WAIS-IV intellectual assessment.

What to expect

  • An initial 50-60 minute to discuss background information and whether a WISC-V/WAIS-IV assessment is needed;
  • A 3-hour appointment to complete the WIAT-III;
  • *An IQ assessment may be needed - this would be an additional 2-hour timeslot to complete the WISC-V or WAIS-IV;
  • A comprehensive 15+ page report with the results and diagnosis if needed;
  • A 50-minute feedback session.
  • This report can be provided to a school for support with an Individualised Learning Plan, or to the organisation that has requested it (with your permission).

Cost

The cost for a WIAT-III assessment alone will generally begin at $1,790.27, but may cost closer to $2,540.27 if it includes an intellectual assessment. For children/teenagers, it is worth checking with their school if they have a Guidance Counsellor who could complete these assessments.

personality assessments (18 to 89-years)

Personality assessments may be available for adults in certain circumstances - you are more than welcome to enquire. They are available both in-person and via telehealth.

Cost

  • A 50-60 minute initial session to discuss your concerns and provide information (e.g., treatment history, other reports by professionals);
  • If appropriate to your situation, the PAI will be sent to you online;
  • In some cases, a 2-hour timeslot to complete the SCID-5 may be needed;
  • A comprehensive written report will be provided to go through the key elements, recommendations, and diagnosis if necessary;
  • A 50-minute feedback session to go through the report and discuss the next steps.

Cost

The cost for a comprehensive personality assessment generally ranges from $1600 to $1850 (including the initial session) depending on the complexity. If it is a component to another assessment (e.g., autism, or ADHD), the cost would be reduced.
